Whilst this may be outside the admission regulations (the KCC prospectus explicitly states that schools cannot offer places over the PAN), the new Code of Practice for School Admissions has been slimmed down to simplify the process to the extent that too much of it is open to interpretation. The Code offers no sanctions against schools who do offend. In any case, as the school is an academy KCC can only watch and, although they may officially disapprove, informally will surely be grateful that the issues in North West Kent are diminished. Certainly there will be many families rejoicing over the news. I anticipate we shall now see more schools going their own way without regard to the rules of co-ordination laid down, in ways that one can only guess at present. Indeed I was talking with one headteacher this morning, whose view is that as an academy, what they do is none of KCC's business!
