Complaints about Independent Appeal Panels for Academies

Regular browsers of this website will be be well aware of my concerns about the accountability of academies. I have just posted my initial advice and views on complaints about Independent Panels set up by academies to hear admission appeals. Sadly, I am very disappointed.......

with the response I have had from the Department for Education which suggests they have currently no processes set up to deal with such complaints and no signposts for parents on how to complain.  It's as if they don't anticipate that academies will generate complaints, although the Ombudsman deal with over 1400 last year! But obviously if parents cannot find out advice on how to complain, or the process to do so, they will be inhibited from doing so. Once again it underlines my concerns about accountability, which spreads across so many areas. It certainly reinforces the view that the academy system is here for the benefit of the  schools and not of children - although these should be coincident.
