Kent Connexions Service

Written by

It's good to hear Paul Luxmore, Executive Head at Dane Court Grammar School, expressing his concerns about the removal of the Connexions Service which provides careers advice to all students at Kent secondary schools. As a previous Chairman of the Kent Careers Service (for six years during another critical time in its past) and former careers teacher myself, I have seen at first hand......

the importance of independent careers advice in schools when it is of an appropriate quality. Its loss would place many young people at a disadvantage if they attend schools that either don't see careers advice as a priority, or else have as a priority the retention of students, rather than acting in their best interests.

This is another economy in the education service that, whilst not a headline grabber, will further undermine the quality of education and support we give our young people. Coming in a week when Radio Kent has been highlighting the employment difficulties in East Kent, Paul Luxmore  is absolutely right to speak out on this; perhaps other headteachers should join in expressing their concenrs.
