The following Kent grammar schools are the only ones with vacancies on 1st March: Folkestone School for Girls; Gravesend Grammar School for Girls; The Harvey Grammar School (Folkestone, boys); Borden Grammar School (Sittingbourne. boys); Clarendon House Grammar School (Ramsgate, girls). If you wish to apply to a Kent school you did not name on your Secondary Common Application Form, you have to proceed through In Year Admission using a form available from Kent County Council and follow the tedious and extremely bureaucratic process involved (not the fault of Kent County Council). However, if the school has more than five vacancies (all these schools currently have more than five vacancies)and your child is qualified by virtue of having passed the Kent test, you may approach the school directly. You need to use the In Year Admission process if your child did not pass the Kent Test.
In Medway, just two grammar schools currently have vacancies: Chatham Grammar School for Boys and Chatham Grammar School for Girls, although both are increasingly popular for Kent children who are being squeezed in the Maidstone area because of shortage of spaces. Entry is by the Medway Test, with a different make up to the Kent Test, two fifths of the marks going on the result of a single piece of English. Here the In Year Admission process appears simpler.
