Academy & Free School News January 2012

The move to academy status appears to has slowed righted down in Kent & Medway in recent months, with most secondary schools able to change having made the move, and only a limited number of primary schools seeing change beneficial. There are no new applications from Kent or Medway secondary schools, and just one primary school each from Kent and Medway: ........

Luddenham School, a primary school near Faversham; and High Halstow Primary on the Hoo Peninsula. Borden Grammar School and Sittingbourne Academy (previously Sittingbourne Community College, in Federation with Westlands School) both in Sittingbourne are the only schools to become academies. That makes a total of 54 academies, with 11 applications in progress in Kent, nearly two thirds of the total number of 101 schools. In Medway 10 of the 17 secondary schools have become academies, with another  3 in progress over three quarters of the total. At primary level, there are 17 Kent primary academies, several as part of federations with secondary schools; and 15 applications in progress, out of a total of 461, just 7% in total. Medway has just one primary academy, with two more in progress, out of 65, a total of 5%. You will find the full list here

There are no new Free School applications approved, leaving just the one, Tigeer School in Maidstone, in progress.
