Monkton CofE Primary - another Outstanding Kent OFSTED, but....

Congratulations to Monkton CofE Primary School in Thanet which joins a growing list of Outstanding Kent primary schools over the past eigthteen months. The full list now reads: Challock Primary School,......
Crockham Hill CofE Primary; Downs View Infants School, Kennington: Fawkham CofE Primary; Fleetdown Primary in Dartford; Herne Bay Infants School; Minterne Community Junior, Sittingbourne;  Rodmersham School, St Eansywythe's CofE Primary, Folkestone; St Michael's CofE Infant School, Maidstone; Seabrook Pirmary School, Folkestone; Whitecliffs Primary College, Dover; Woodlands Junior School; Tonbridge. What is particularly pleasing is that the list shows it is not just schools in the prosperous West of the County who are awarded this hard earned honour, but  schools across the county and from all demographic backgrounds.
The Monkton OFSTED Report begins: "This is an outstanding school. The school’s motto ‘Every child is special’ continues to be the key to its success. Staff know each child exceptionally well and ensure that an inspirational curriculum caters for their specific needs. Consistently high quality teaching that captures pupils’ interests, and thorough analysis of their work mean pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, make rapid progress from their starting points. Their exemplary behaviour contributes markedly to their learning".
Whilst it is pleasing to see that Kent's proportion of Outstanding Schools, at 7% is above the national average of 6%, the other statistics continue to make alarming reading as follows:......

OFSTED CATEGORIES: PERCENTAGE OF TOTAL NUMBER OF SCHOOLS INSPECTED

Number of Schools

Inspected

Outstanding % Good % Satisfactory % Inadequate %
National 6 46 42 6
Kent 182 7 35 49 8
Maidstone 27 4 15 67 15
In Kent, just 64 out of 182 schools were graded Good, to reach the national average, it should have been 84.  Maidstone, the County Town of Kent, by no menas one of the most socially deprive areas of the county has the worst record of any Kent district with just 5 schools graded Outstanding or Good out of 27. To reach the national average, it should have had 14! You will find individual school grades here.
I would assume that one of the prioirities o fthe new Kent Director of Education's is to reverse these figures, which are underlined by the Kent Key Stage Two results over many years.
