Supporting Families

A very pleasing (and busy) week in terms of interest shown in the website. The release of the Kent eleven plus results has seen over a thousand visitors every day, rising to 1761 on Tuesday, the busiest day since March. I have been responding to large numbers of emails, every one receiving a brief piece of advice or opinion. My telephone consultation service has been in full swing, so rather a hectic week in all! However,.......

It is becoming clear that for the second year running, Medway Council has overseen major problems in the running of the Medway tests at two centres, for admission to Medway grammar schools, in what can only be described as a shambles. This year the main reported problems were at Rainham School for Girls and at Chatham Grammar School for Boys, although the invigilators are not necessarily from those schools. You will find further comment in my blog........
My discovery of the fall in numbers in Out of County children from East Sussex and Surrey, who were successful in the Kent test this year is the front page news item of 'Tunbridge Wells on Sunday'. The complementary issue of a large increase in numbers from London Boroughs who will be seeking places in the Dartford Grammar Schools has not attracted the same media interest. You will find my news item here.

The pass mark requirement is the same as last year, i.e. an aggregate score of 360 over the three tests, with a minimum of 117 in any test, allowing 21% of all children living in the selective areas of Kent through. A further 4% will have been offered places with scores below this but who have been awarded a pass after a headteacher's assessment.

Children at the Chatham Grammar School test centre, had their maths test halted five minutes early and some papers were collected in. The children were then given the correct time, but the confusion will certainly have affected some pupils' chances of success, especially as they then had to sit the English test
