Individual School Information - B

(updated Jun 2011)

Barton Court Grammar School Canterbury. Mixed. Usually just about fills in March. A new headteacher was appointed for September 2010: Kirsten Cardus, previously Head of School at the Invicta Grammar School in Maidstone (part of the Invicta and Valley Park Federation). 24 qualified first choices oversubscribed on 2nd March 2010, 11 for 2011.   Cut off distance was initially 6.24 miles in 2010. Has hit controversy this year (2010-11), as the new Headteacher proposed a raft of changes to the school curriculum. These had arisen partly as a response to a decline in performance over the previous two years, and included scaling back the International Baccalaureate programme, changes in timetable arrangements, and improvements in procedures for monitoring student progress. I have recieved concenrs from different parents that, although a Language College, the school has scaled back its languages programme due to financial pressures by, for example, removing Mandarin as a Middle School option, and Spanish from the Sixth Form Baccalaureate programme. 11 qualified first choices oversubscribed for 2011 eentry.

Bennett Memorial Diocesan School Tunbridge Wells. Heavily oversubscribed with pupils from families with strong Christian affiliation. Check oversubscription criteria carefully. 92 first preferences turned away in 2009. 64 first choices oversubscribed on 2nd March 2010. By far the top Kent non-selelective school in 2010 GCSE tables at 86% 5 A-C inc M&E. Close to lowest performing grammar school. 47 first choices oversubscribed for 2011 entry. Now an academy.

Borden Grammar School Sittingbourne. Usually has places available. Appeals organised by Independent Appeal Panel Administrator

Brockhill Park School Hythe. Performing Arts School. Is now oversubscribed with first preferences. 60 first choices oversubscribed on 2nd March 2010, rising to 81 in 2011. Applying to be an academy.
